Great Bradford Guardians v Sporting 77 Iguanas

Iguanas beginning to gel in second league outing.

Iguanas faced tough opponents in a well established Great Bradfords side this week. Great Bradfords opened strongly and went straight on the attack, with a brilliant save from Ollie denying them a goal in the first minute. Ollie was kept busy in the first half and despite Ethan working hard in defence with support from Aurora and Lewis, the shots on goal kept coming.

Much of the play was in our half, but some promising forays towards goal came together, with Zach making some great runs and Lewis and Aurora showing good movement. Ollie showed great leadership from the goal mouth communicating well with the rest of the team when it came to defending corner kicks.

Iguanas put together some promising runs, with Zach having several shots on goal in the first half, but denied by the side netting. Jayden brought some creativity on the wing, and worked well with Zack but the goal would not come.

With Rafe and Fearne Dolly now on the pitch Great Bradfords continued to attack. Jayden was getting into some good positions out wide, and Zack looked dangerous up front but Iguanas went into half time behind.

The restart saw a positive display, with some lovely play between Lewis and Zack, and a promising strike on goal from Aurora. Despite being behind, Iguanas were playing much more confidently and gelling together better as a team.

Jayden and Zack were working well together, creating some movement up the wing. Great Bradfords were still keeping us busy in our own half, with good defending by Ethan and some excellent saves by Ollie. On the attack, Zack found his way through again but struck the post!

Just when it seemed that we were destined not to score, Jayden managed to bag a goal! Rafe and Fearne Dolly were back on the pitch and buoyed by Jayden’s strike both made a couple of runs on goal with Rafe taking a shot which was deflected and saved. Fearne Dolly was making good use of space and getting some important tackles in back in our half.

The result didn’t go our way but it was exciting to see the team starting to gel and communication between players improving. There were lots of positives to take from the performance and it was good to see flashes of confidence in the way Iguanas played as they find there feet as a team.

Man of the Match - Zach. Well deserved following four powerful shots on goal and great presence and movement on the pitch . Well done Zach and great effort Iguanas!
