Sunday 2 May

Today we faced a long drive to Burnham on Crouch for our first meeting with the Ramblers - and boy was it worth the journey.

With just 8 players in the squad for match day we needed to be sure to conserve energy and to get our passing game working well from the start. The first 10 minutes were spent feeling each other out with some early corners for the Scorpions coming to nothing.

After 13 minutes the break though came with Jake B running through and slotting home. It wasn't long before the lead was doubled with Jake B running though and scoring with another fine finish and the Ramblers were struggling with our passing and movement.

Some further great play between Jake B and Jake M saw the latter fire a shot just wide and just after that a blatant penalty for the Scorpions was denied. The Blues were undeterred and continued their assault towards the Ramblers goal and this time a wonderful kick from Tor saw Jake B run through again to slot home a first half hat trick. 3-0. Further chances and corners came our way but the first half finished up at 3-0

At HT the boys were told to keep focused and concentrating and to treat the game as if it were 0-0. We spoke about how the through ball was working well and Caspar was given specific instruction to slot balls through from the back so the wide players could run through on goal.

With just a few minutes on the clock in the second half a lovely ball from Conner found Jake M and he got his name on the score sheet to put the tie to bed 4-0 with a very composed finish.

The Scorpions were in no mood to rest on their lead though. Fired up they continued to attack and further chances for Jake M, Jake B and Conner were all thwarted until Jake B smashed in his 4th of the match. 5-0

The only blemish of the day came when a very suspect penalty was awarded against us - the Burnham player struck the pen hard and high and Tor, although getting finger tips to the strike, had no chance to keep it out of the net 5-1.

More superb chances fell the Scorpions way, Jake M running through and being denied by a last ditch tackle and then an excellent corner from Conner was met by Jake M but his header was saved - but a fabulous effort. Poyraz moving into a DM position then got up the pitch and had an effort fly just wide.

Incredibly another blatant penalty was not awarded when Jake B was kicked in the area but just mins later a penalty was finally awarded when Jake M showed tricky feet and was taken out. His left foot penalty was rifled home to make the score line 6-1

Further chances fell to the blues and the Burnham heads had well and truly dropped. Caspar hit the post but then a fabulous move saw Jake B slot into Jake M and his beautiful ball into Poyraz saw him tuck the ball away - and we were all treated to one of the best goal celebrations we've ever seen I'm quite sure :) !! #UnleashTheWorm!

The cherry on the cake came when Jake B smashed in a beautiful half volley with his left foot into the bottom corner and Burnham didn't quite know what had hit them. All we could do was applaud the boys today as they came off the pitch after a fabulous team performance - truly outstanding from all of you, well done. FT 8-1

? of the match - Caspar. Although I could have found a valid reason to award this trophy to any player today I chose Caspar for one specific reason. At half time we discussed how Burnham were susceptible to a ball through the middle. With our pacey strikers it was a good ploy and Caspar made some incredible passes cutting the defence to ribbons and it resulted in chance after chance. He also battled superbly at the back, made great runs and hit a great effort off the post. Well done Caspar and well done to all of you on the pitch today, you all deserve a little piece of this trophy.
