The blues go marching on

Another home tie at Deanery Hill today and we knew we would face a tough challenge against a Witham side who have played most of their football in the top division.

The Scorpions, on a good run of form, started brightly with some nice link up play between Jake M, Jake B and Mason - and a nice run from Mason found JB who just couldn't get his effort away. But a good start to the game.

Witham were proving to be very tough and very physical with a few fouls and pushes going in early on, but the blues kept calmed and kept their heads and before long the deadline was broken - a lovely mazy run from Jake B found Mason who hit a well struck shot, the keeper saved well but the rebound fell to Jake M and a nice finish on the half volley gave the blues the lead. 1-0

More physical play from Witham saw another foul on Jake B, the resulting free kick was struck from distance but flew wide of the post. Another good effort from Mason was saved well and another good run from Jake B saw him square the ball but Jake M just couldn't connect with the finish - but the Scorpions were getting closer.

Further chances for Jake B and Mason were denied by a very solid Witham keeper but the second goal wasn't far off for a rampant blues side. A nice run from Jake M saw him get to the by line, he held up play and George made a good run forward to support. A superb 1-2 between the pair saw Jake M free as he fired in a cross - Jake B came close to getting on the end of it but this time it was Mason to fire home to give the Scorpions a well deserved 2 goal lead.

Some more lovely interlinking play between Mason and Jake M saw a Jake M effort fly wide and Caspar making a good forward run also had a saved. More chances followed with Patrick, looking very assured in the CDM role, playing a lovely ball through to Jake M and another terrific save from the Witham keeper kept his side in the tie.

The half time whistle blew 2-0 and the Scorpions had a well deserved lead at the break.

The second half started as the first had ended with the Scorpions on the attack and some more great play from our attacking players saw Jake M hit a shot agonisingly off the post. Witham Town were showing signs of frustration but the Scorpions were perhaps being a little over confident and in losing our shape we conceded a goal totally against the run of play 2-1

The shape of the game didn't much change as the blues kept dominating the ball. It must be said however that Caspar, Poyraz and Lucas were all playing brilliantly at the back and it wasn't through lack of effort on Witham's part that they weren't getting much joy in the attacking third.

After some good work from Conner another chance fell to Mason whose shot was saved by the Witham keeper but then it was our own super keeper Tor's turn to make a fantastic save to keep the Scorpions ahead!! The game was in the balance and although the blues should have been out of sight we weren't and another fine save from Tor epitomised just how close this game somehow was.

The nerves however didn't last long when Jake B found Jake M out on the left. Controlling the ball he skilfully found his way past a defender before rocketing a left foot shot right into the bottom corner of the net - a sublime finish giving the keeper no chance 3-1

The final goal came with another fine finish from Jake M as he run down the left, cut in and smashed the ball into the goal from some way out with his right foot. 4-1 and game over. FT.

Another truly fantastic watch from the side lines as the Scorpions continue to impress against teams who are no pushovers. The team ethic is wonderful and each and every player gives their all every week. We couldn't ask for anymore and today was another performance both the players and everyone associated with them can be proud. Well done boys let's keep going.

Scorpions of the match - Mason and Patrick
Another game where choosing a player of the match was so hard we decided to choose two. Some fabulous link up play with our strikers today saw Mason at the heart of most moves. He kept his head up and always looked for a pass to a team mate and was rewarded with another fine goal. Patrick in the middle of the park was immense as he brushed off the physical Witham players and kept emerging with the ball. He broke up countless passages of play and the Witham players simply couldn't out strength him - also played some excellent passes as well. Superb for both, well done.
