Scorpions 1-3 Writtle Minors Blues
Archie (Jake B assist)

A return to league football for the Scorpions and our first challenge was a home tie against a very solid outfit in Writtle Minors Blues.

The first half started well for the Scorpions with Archie hitting the target early but was denied by the impressive Writtle keeper. Writtle then went on the attack and it was our own impressive keeper Tor making a brilliant save at full stretch to tip around the post.

Writtle were very comfortable in possession and certainly bossed the passing in the first half, but chances were at a premium - a nice move from the home side saw a pass from Jake M into Jake B, but he saw his shot saved which was really the highlight of a first half that lacked too many clear cut chances. 0-0 HT

The second half saw the Scorpions pushing on and having far more of the ball, however that seemed to play into Writtle's hands as we were caught on the break to concede the opener. 0-1

The Scorpions continued to press with shots from Patrick and Mason but again conceded on the break, more good passing from Writtle saw them slot an easy second, and the rub of the green was certainly with the away side. 0-2

The Scorpions didn't let their heads drop and continued to push forward, a goal was at the very least what we deserved but the Writtle keeper continued to inspire, saving again from Jake B. Another counter saw Writtle score again and the game was all but done 0-3.

A late consolation was driven in from Archie after a nice pass into him from Jake B, but unfortunately it came too late for the Scorpions to try salvage anything. 1-3 FT

Today was a tough match where our opposition kept the ball very well and made the most of their chances. On another day the score line could easily have flipped but it just wasn't to be our day today and nothing seemed to fall kindly for us. Keep your heads up boys, we go again next week.

? of the match - Tor
Made some truly world class saves and was also excellent with his distribution. His goal kicks were all great and he also made some huge throws to the half way line finding our midfielders. Nothing he could do with any of the goals and was unlucky to end up on the losing team. Well done.
