Blues go marching on

Back to Deanery Hill today to face the Heybridge Swifts - as well as the long grass and dandelions that were invading the pitch.

The game started on a fairly even keel as both teams looked to get into an early rhythm but it wasn't long before the Scorpions created the first chance with George, Jake B and Jake M playing some nice passes to each other but Jake M fired his shot wide.

Just a minute later the ref awarded a free kick around 20 yards from goal after Jake B was hacked down. Jake B lined up a speculative shot and rifled into the bottom corner - a great finish and a great start 1-0.

The Scorpions had their tails up and like previous weeks had wave after wave of attacks, and Heybridge who were very capable just couldn't get a foothold in the game. Jake M and Jake B had multiple chances but a combination of great saves and shots flying wide meant the score line remained close. Conner had a shot well saved and multiple corners were really well delivered but we just couldn't get a toe on the ball after some desperate Heybridge defending.

Another fantastic move saw Jake M and Jake B play a beautiful one two, and Jake M hit a great low drive that was tipped onto the post. A long shot from Caspar followed and it was all Scorpions. Mason had another good shot saved before Heybridge broke on the counter, but Tor was alert and bravely commanded his area to gather the ball. HT 1-0

At half time the boys were feeling the warm conditions but were told to keep working hard. It was incredible that we'd only scored the one goal and the only thing that would lose us this game was complacency. Focus and keep working hard was the message ringing in the ears of the players and out we went for the second period.

The second goal didn't take take long, a lovely run from Jake B found Mason and he hit a lovely finish high into the goal to make it 2-0. Jake M had a shot flash just high and wide and another good chance saw Jake M fire over the bar.

Jake M and Jake B continued to cause havoc on the flanks and a beautiful through ball from Jake M found Mason but his shot went just wide. The Scorpions were relentless and another foul on Jake B resulted in a freekick around 35 yards from goal. Jake B lined up another shot that was deflected and the ball fall to Jake M who this time make no mistake as he rifled with the outside of his boot high into the net. 3-0 and the Scorpions were cruising.

The 4th followed shortly after a lovely corner delivered from Mason saw Jake B tap home for his second of the game but the Scorpions were not finished yet. Poyraz moving into a defensive midfield position went on a lovely run down the left and earned his team a corner. The corner was swung in from Mason and on hand was Jake M to volley home his second of the game - 5-0.

A rare shot from Heybridge brought out the very best from Tor as a he dived full stretch to spectacularly tip over the bar to deny the visitors a consolation. Heybridge tried their very best to get forward, but Caspar, Lucas Poyraz and George were constantly breaking up play.

Some more lovely work between Jake M and Mason had the Heybridge defence panicking before Jake M made a great run and unselfishly squared to Jake B for his hattrick and a Scorpions 6th. In the dying seconds Jake B was through 1 on 1 with the keeper but the final whistle blew to deny us a certain 7th. Full Time 6-0.

Another dominant performance from the blues today. The pitch was far from favourable for our passing game but the boys all did tremendously well to play some great football and continue to make multiple chances. Although that final ball or final pass was sometimes missing, to beat this Heybridge side 6-0 was a very impressive performance. Well done everyone.

? of the Match - Jake M
Another massive effort from Jake as he covered every blade of grass today. He continued to be an attacking threat, got back to help his defence but it was his eye for a through ball and final ball that really caught the eye. Two goals and two assists were his reward for a massive effort today but again it must be mentioned that many players played very well today and it really was another wonderful team performance. Well done.
