Dominant Scorpions can only manage a draw

A damp day at Tabor today as we welcomed the Valley Green Dragons in what was our first ever league match against them.

Much of the opening exchanges were in midfield but both defensives looked strong and comfortable on the ball. As the clocked ticked on the Scorpions were starting to find the gaps and a nice through ball from Jake M found Mason but his early shot was well saved.

Some more good passing and transitioning out from defence to midfield continued to catch the eye but the Scorpions was just missing a final ball to open the scoring.

The opening goal wasn't far off and it came from a trademark run from deep by Jake M, running into the box he calmly slotted past the keeper to give the blues a deserved lead. 1-0

The blues were still having to keep their shape and be aware at the back with Caspar tidying up lots of attempted through passes but it was the Scorpions who possed the more potent attack.

Unfortunately the blues conceded from some sloppy play and poor concentration and all our hard work was undone. 1-1

The Scorpions continued to press and a fantastic run from Poyraz from deep saw him through on goal but his finish went just wide.

We then found ourselves trailing after a free kick was hit through a mele of players and somehow trickled into the net. But undeterred the Scorpions kept battling away and a lovely finish from Mason equalised to make it 2-2 at half time.

The second half was all one way traffic with wave after wave of Scorpions attacks. Jake M was pulling strings in midfield playing some nice passing through the Dragons defence but their keeper was having a great match pulling off save after save.

Mason and Jake B had good chances to win the game as did Jake M but our best chance came from the penalty spot after Poyraz was hacked down. Poyraz placed the ball and hit a well struck shot but again their keeper was equal to it pushing it out. Poyraz followed up only to find his shot saved yet again.

A somewhat dubious disallowed goal for Jake B from a corner summed up our luck in front of goal and a final flurry of chances also fell to Jake B but we just couldn't find a way past an inspired Dragons keeper in the second half. 2-2 full time.

A solid performance today against a team thst have played in the higher leagues since we started, and we really deserved the win . We had an incredible amount of chances but just couldn't put the ball in the net when it mattered. Credit to the Dragons goalkeeper who made some outstanding saves to earn his team a point. Well played boys.

Scorpion of the match - Caspar

Caspar put in a great performance today. He was a rock at the back and played some excellent passes upfield to set up attacks. Always looked assured in possession and gave the Dragons attack very little chance today. Well played.
