Scorpions 5-0 Heybridge Swifts Phoenix
Jake B (2) Archie assist, Jake M assist
Jake M (2) Archie assist

A return match today against a physical Heybridge Swifts team who we just managed to sneak a win against last time out.

A tightly contested first 15 minutes saw both teams struggling to find any attacking rhythm to their play and it was our oponents who had the first attempts of the match with a shot that Tor did well to save with another shot not troubling the goal.

With Jake M, Jake B and Mason playing across the middle there was some nice passages of play with Jake M making some really good runs, but it was the introduction of Archie from the bench and Jake M moving into the middle that seemed to give us more attacking impotus.

It was that combination that created our first goal. Archie with a great run down the right wing opened up the Heybridge defence and his low angled shot was well saved but with the ball rolling agonisingly towards the goal it was Jake M on hand following in to blast the ball home from all of a yard. 1-0

That goal really seemed to settle the blues and from this point there was only one team in the contest. With Caspar being commanding at the back and Poyraz George and Lucas supporting well the Swifts were struggling to make any inroads to goal throughout the whole contest.

It wasn't long before the Scorpions doubled their lead. Some more great work from Archie down the flank saw his cross find Jake B and he made no mistake driving the ball hard and low into the net 2-0

Some rare attacking threat from our opponents called Tor into action, but he was looking very assured and collected the ball well. 2-0 HT and a deserved lead for the blues.

The second half started much like the first, fairly even and contested mainly in midfield. Patrick and Connor were getting stuck in and Mason was providing a good outlet for forward balls down the channels.

However the Scorpions soon found their stride and a third goal wasn't too far away. This time the two Jakes combined well and Jake M's cross was neatly finished by Jake B and the game was all but over. 3-0

The Scorpions however sensed more goals. A very nice give and go between Archie and Jake M saw Archie fire in a shot that was well saved. As as we continued to press an exquisite turn and shot from the edge of the box from jake M saw him rifle in a 4th and it was 4-0

Another good move saw a lovely half volleyed pass from Patrick into Jake M. He found Jake B but we just couldn't get a shot away - but some of the play from the Scorpions was very pleasing on the eye.

The fifth and final goal was the cherry on the cake. Some more strong play from Archie created panic in the Heybridge back line and a high looping clearance saw the ball dropping around their six yard box. With Connor hovering he rose to power home our first ever headed goal and his first ina league game for the blues !!! 5-0 FT. ????

Another very pleasing performance from the Scorpions today. With a lot of emphasis on passing the ball around in training this week it was great to see EVERY player getting their heads up and looking for a team mate. We rarely looked troubled at the back but when we were we defended brilliantly and Tor pulled out some assured stops to keep the clean sheet. With 4 wins in 6 games in a tougher league and only 2 defeats by a single goal this really has been an excellent start as we go into the half term break.

Well done today Scorpions another really good team performance and excellent result.

Scorpion of the week - Tor

Although this wasn't a match where Tor had to make multiple saves, when he was called upon today he was solid and never looked like conceding. His concentration was spot on and distribution was excellent - with his kicking up the pitch particularly good today. Some crucial saves at crucial times kept the teams momentum and confidence going. Well done Tor.
