Brilliant Scorpions fall just short

An absolutely epic game today in which the Scorpions were unlucky to taste defeat against an outstanding and unbeaten Panthers team who had scored over 8 goals in each of their first 3 matches. It was that good I must confess I took hardly any notes as I was so engrossed in the match ?

Adopting a new formation the Scorpions started on the back foot with the Panthers looking assured in possession with some very quick and skillful players in their team. Their number 9 in particular was a real handful.

Although we were defending well and holding our own, after 18 mins we found ourselves a goal down due to a defensive lapse, and 4 minutes later it was looking an uphill task as we conceded a second.

In typical Scorpions fashion we did not let our heads drop and we started to gain a little more confidence in possession as we played the ball around better. As the half went on the Scorpions were getting some joy against the Panthers defence and a lovely finish from Mason saw us go in at half time just one goal adrift. HT 2-1

The second half started well for the Scorpions and with all players battling away it was becoming a performance to remember from the boys. As we pushed for an equaliser Archie found a little space in the box and smashed an unstoppable shot into the top right hand corner 2-2 - the away support was roaring and the Panthers were shaken!!!

Still looking very dangerous the Panthers were pressing but the Scorpions continued to get stuck in. A nice touch from Jake M saw him in through the middle and another touch saw him running into the penalty area. As he was about to shoot a completly blatent foul from their keeper took him completely out but inexplicably the ref waved play on. A totally unfair decision that was very disappointing to see. (even their manager apologised and said it was a pen.... At full time)

The game continued to be tight but a goal from our hosts with about 5 minutes to go was the difference. 3-2 Full Time

All Becky And I can say today is well done to every player in a blue Jersey ????. No one shyed away and all gave 100% commitment. It was a terrific performance and we are immensely proud of you all.

The Panthers are the best team in the Dengie league and have only recently come down from the Blackwater division. The have beaten everyone comprehensively but we gave them a brilliant match. Their manager said we were an excellent team and were undoubtedly their toughest match this season so far. If we take that intensity into every game we will have a very successful season.

Scorpion of the match - Connor

Another good performance from Connor today. It was hard work for the whole team but Connor has shown great improvement in the last two games and really got stuck in again today. He showed good strenth in the tackle and always had his head up looking for a pass. Well done Connor keep it going. ??
