A fantastic game of football on the 3g pitch at Tiptree today as the Scorpions came out on top in a high quality encounter.

A very even start saw both teams playing the ball around nicely in the middle of the pitch. The Scorpions made some good early chances with nice interlink play with Archie Lucas and George, but Archie's shot was cleared for a corner. Torquespeed then had a good attack with some tricky strikers looking to use their skills to get a shot off, but Caspar and Poyraz were both defending resolutely to protect Tor in goal.

After all the good football on show the opening goal came from an accurate goal kick from Tor straight down the middle. With the ball taking a big bounce off the hard surface Jake and Mason both attacked the ball putting the keeping off who allowed the ball to sail over his head. 1-0

Torquespeed looked to get back in the game and some fantastic saves from Tor kept the hosts out before the Scorpions put another smart move together. Jake playing the ball up the line found George and he got his head up and found Mason but his shot just failed to hit the target.

That brought the half to an end and a very close 20 minutes saw the Scorpions with their noses just in front. 1-0. HT

The second half from the Scorpions was possibly some of the best football they've played. Bearing in mind we were playing very strong opposition the passing and movement between the players was fantastic. It all started with some great play from Poyraz - picking the ball up in defence he looked up and saw space - running into that space he found himself in unfamiliar territory by the by-line and crossed in a great ball that deflected for a corner. Although it came to nothing it set the tone for the effort in the second half.

A lovely run from Archie up the line resulted in another corner but again it came to nothing. With Patrick on in the second half he was getting heavily involved today and produced some lovely runs with the ball. Torquespeed were not out of the game though and a quick counter attack saw a deflected shot hit the outside of the post. With the Scorpions on the attack some quick thinking from Patrick saw him throw it to Archie in the box and a lovely composed finish put the Scorpions in a well deserved two goal lead. 2-0

After a quiet first half Jake was playing some brilliant football on the right wing in the second, beating his marker on numerous occasion. Torquespeed swapped defenders to try to mark him out the game but it was to no avail as another great run and pass found Mason in space but his first time effort was struck too well and flew over the bar.

The third goal for the Scorpions was another beautiful piece of football. Another fantastic run from Poyraz this time found Jake in area with a lovely pass and a sublime drag back sent the whole Torquespeed defence the wrong way before a powerful left foot finish made it 3-0.

A fortuitous consolation for the hosts from a corner was the only blip on what was a superb performance. 3-1 Full time

Well where to start today. The first half was pretty equal and perhaps we were a little lucky to lead at the break but the second half was simply fantastic from all the boys. Tor made some terrific saves throughout the match at important times and Poyraz was his usual excellent self in defence (to mention his passing today was brilliant) whilst Lucas and George were working tirelessly breaking up play and closing down space which was making it hard for Torquespeed to attack. A fashionable late entrance from Patrick after some issues finding the venue didn't seem to put him off and he made some good tackles and ran well with the ball whilst also getting an assist with a quick throw to Archie. Mason found some good space today and had a couple of chances but he just couldn't keep his shots down although they were all very well struck. A very quiet first half for Jake saw him explode into life in the second and the Torquespeed defence really struggled to cope with him.

Scorpion of the week – Caspar

Caspar was great in training yesterday listening to instructions and putting in a lot of effort as we worked on our passing and movement and that continued into the match today. Starting as a CDM he protected Poyraz and they both worked well together. In the second half he was all over the pitch but mainly got back to stop the Torquespeed attacks. A great effort today well done.
