Dominant second half see Scorpions cruise to victory

Sunday 1st March 2020

Scorpions 4 – 1 Wilvale Rangers Warriors
Jake
Mason
Archie 2

A game of two halves today as the Scorpions dug deep to find the victory at Tabor.

The first half started fairly evenly with both teams having possession in the middle of the pitch but were finding it difficult to create clear cut opportunities. As the Scorpions started to grow into the game it was Mason who had the first shot forcing a good stop from the keeper.

The Scorpions continued on the front foot and a good run from Jake forced a good save from the keeper, with Jake picking up the loose ball he fired his shot on the turn into the top left corner to open the scoring 1-0

A few minutes later a lovely piece of defensive play from Poyraz saw him surge forward with the ball, looking up he played a lovely through ball to Jake but a fine save denied him his second of the game. Wilvale continued to look threatening however and a pot shot found its way past Tor to level the scores at 1-1. The goal seems to give our hosts a boost and a fine strike brought the best out in Tor as he made a fine save and another great break form our visitors was foiled by some great defensive work from Jake tracking back - as the half time whistle went it was the Scorpions more relieved to get in level at the break. Half-time 1-1

The second half from the Scorpions was in complete contrast to the first. Some lovely interlinking between Archie Jake and Mason cut through the Wilvale defence and it was Mason on hand to fire the ball into the net to put the Scorpions back into the lead 2-1.

The Scorpions continued to completely dominate and some lovely work from Archie on the right wing saw him wiggle away from his marker, putting his laces through the ball the cross/shot flew through the air and into the top corner giving the Wilvale keeper absolutely no chance 3-1 to the Scorpions and a great goal to bring up Archie's 30th goal of the season!!

More chances for Archie, Jake , George Lucas and Mason all followed before the game was finally put to bed. A free-kick out on the right was smashed towards goal from Archie and the powerful strike was too hot for the goalkeeper to handle. 4-1 Full Time.

A pretty average first half today followed by a completely dominant performance in the second half. Wilvale had some quick strong players but all the Scorpions worked hard to nullify their threat. Jake opened the scoring with a fine finish and worked tirelessly covering a lot of ground whilst also battling well against the physically stronger players for Wilvale. Poyraz was great at the back and snuffed out danger on numerous occasions and Lucas when filling in for Poyraz was man to man marking superbly giving the strikers no time to settle. Tor made some great saves and interceptions and George came into the game massively in the second half making some great passes and looking very threatening with his set pieces. Archie and Mason both looked threatening throughout and took their chances at the top of the pitch to put the game beyond our opponents.

A very good performance today but a brighter start will be needed next week against very tough opposition. Well done everyone.

Scorpion of the week - Archie

All the boys at training were fantastic this week and Archie was no exception as he worked really hard finding space and playing passes through the gaps. He scores goals for fun but it's what he is starting to add to his game that's really pleasing to see. He took his hard work in training onto the pitch today, especially in the second half and was always trying to get his head up looking for passes - Well done Archie keep it up.
