Scorpions swarm Wasps to take the win.

Sunday 23 Feb 2020

Scorpions 2 – 1 Great Notley Wasps
Jake
Archie

A thoroughly miserable day weather wise at Tabor as we played our first match against Great Notley Wasps who came down a division for this season.

With the rain pouring and the wind blowing conditions were perhaps as bad as they have ever been, but undeterred the team started brightly with two early efforts from Jake bringing the best out of the Wasps' keeper. The Wasps also showed they were dangerous early on and a very smart save from Tor down to his right kept the score level.

More great football from the Scorpions saw a cross from Archie find Jake in the middle, but he couldn't adjust his body to convert his chance. Further good attacking play saw Archie drill in a corner and with the wind playing a part the ball curled towards goal only for the keeper to save yet again.

The Wasps' started to come into the game and a brilliant free kick smashed the post before another break saw them through on goal only for Archie to make a certain goal saving tackle to clear the danger just as their striker was poised to shoot.

With the Scorpions on top is was the Wasps' who opened the scoring, a corner being drilled in and finished neatly to take the lead somewhat against the run of play.

The Scorpions kept pushing forward and a great chance fell to George whose shot cannoned off the post and that was to be it for the first half with the Scorpions trailing 0-1.

With the boys soaked through it was hard to be too critical during the half time team talk. The were told to keep working hard and that the chances would continue to come if they kept working hard - just keep working hard, stay strong and be ready to put the ball in the back of the net.

The Second half started well and another fine run from Jake cutting through the Wasps' defence resulted in a free kick. Although the free kick wasn't struck with great power the shot was accurate and sneaked into the corner to bring the equaliser. 1-1

The Scorpions were now swarming all over the Wasps and a nice passage of play saw Archie through on goal and a nice composed finish put the Scorpions into a deserved lead. A double shot from Mason at the end of the match was smartly saved from the keeper and that brought an end to the action. 2-1 Full Time

A very tough game today against a good team in terrible conditions. It was plain to see some of the boys were struggling a little with the conditions but all toughed it out and battled through to get the win. There was some really nice passing movements today and it's good to see that what we are working on in training is starting to transpose into matches. A great win today against good opposition to keep our unbeaten run intact for another week. Well done everyone, we go again next week.

Scorpion of the week – Poyraz

A really tough game for our defensive dynamo today but he toughed it out and kept most of the Wasps' strikers very quiet. He continued to show for the ball from goal kicks and made some lovely passes up the line to set the Scorpions off on attacks. Another strong performance today, well done.
