Dominant second half performance earns victory for the blues!

Sunday 26 January 2020

Scorpions 4 – 1 Galleywood Falcons
Archie ⚽️⚽️⚽️
Caspar⚽️

Today we were up again Galleywood Falcons at Tabor, a team who seem to improve each time we play them.

The late kick off didn't seem to do us too many favours with a lack of energy and slow start proving quite frustrating. A couple of half chances from Mason and Archie were all we really created before a dubious free kick was awarded to Galleywood which saw Poyraz hobble with an injury. The resulting free kick was hit superbly and although stand in keeper Caspar got a hand to it the ball found it's way into the net 0-1.

The Scorpions slowly started to get a foothold in the match and although neither team were showing too much fluidity in their play it was the blues looking more likely. A corner taken by Archie ricocheted back out to him and a lovely first time hit saw the ball smashed off the top of the bar, but that was as close as we come to a goal and a disappointing half ended with us trailing 0-1.

The half time team talk was perhaps as animated as it's ever been. The boys were told to pick up their efforts and energy levels if they wanted to win the game and playing the way we did in the first half would only end in defeat.

The boys responded well and started to look more like the team we're used to watching each week. Some lovely play from Jake on the left wing saw him brought down in the box but we were slightly fortuitous in being awarded a penalty. Jake took the Penalty kick and struck the ball well but the Falcons keeper read the shot and made the save. Just minutes later Jake was through again with more nice play, his shot was saved but appeared to be trickling over the line but Mason running in wanted to make sure but smashed the shot wide... was it going to be one of those days......

The Scorpions kept going and kept the pressure on the Galleywood defence and another nice piece of play saw a clear handball in the area and a second penalty was awarded to the blues. This time Archie stepped up and made no mistake blasting it into the top corner. 1-1

Now the Scorpions had their tails up.

With a disappointed Jake back on the pitch and seemingly with his head cleared he channelled his energy into helping the team, and a fantastic pass found Archie who made no mistake to make it 2-1. Just two minutes after taking the lead more good work from Jake found Archie in space again, and our main marksman completed another hat trick to put the Scorpions in a commanding position. 3-1

Galleywood were still threatening and second half keeper Lucas made some important saves at important times. George and Poyraz were kept very busy all game and some excellent defending from George shielding the ball out of play on several occasions gave the team some well needed respite.

The final goal was the best team goal and really pleasing as it was straight from the training pitch - Jake with the ball played a nice pass in field to George and George played the killer pass through to Caspar who made no mistake. Full Time 4-1.

A really tough match today made harder by our own slow start and sloppy play. After a chat at half time we all started to play to the level we know we can. Some clinical finishing from Archie and some nice assist play from Jake left Galleywood with no answers in the second half. George and Poyraz worked tirelessly in defence and Lucas and Caspar both did a team job today playing in goal and working hard when out on field. Mason led the line and put a lot of energy and effort into his second half display. Well done Scorpions – Not our best performance but a commanding win which is very positive. We go again next week against tough opponents. Well done everyone.

Scorpion of the Match - Archie

Scored a pressure penalty to bring us back on level terms and in a game of limited chances showed how clinical his finishing was in bagging a hat trick. Although it was a great team effort in the second half his goals were the difference in earning the team victory – Well done
