Dominant Scorpions earn deserved victory

Back at Tabor for today's match against the capable Torqueseed Falcons and with the wind blowing and the rain making an occasional appearance we knew conditions were gong to be difficult.

The match started very well for the Scorpions with Caspar getting in an early shot to test the keeper but a decent save kept the scores level. The next 5 minutes were evening contested and the physical presence of Torquespeed was keeping all the Scorpions on their toes - we knew we were going to be in for a tough game.

With the game continuing to be evenly contested a rare attack into the Scorpions penalty area drew a foul with the ref pointing to the spot. With Tor bouncing on his line making himself big the ball was firmly struck and even with a solid hand on the ball the shot was too powerful for Tor to keep out of the net. 1-0

The Scorpions, in typical fashion, were energised from going a goal down and went in search of the equaliser. Caspar hit a lovely shot just wide before Torquespeed went on the attack and earned a corner. As the corner was whipped in some great defending from Jake saw him running out of his penalty area with the ball. He continued running and carried the ball past the half way line and found himself one on one with the defender. A lovely piece of skill past the defender and calm finish into the bottom corner put the teams on level terms 1-1 and a sublime equaliser. 1-1 and all square at half time.

The second half started well with the Scorpions pushing forward looking to take the lead. Poyraz and Caspar were snuffing out any attacks from the opposition and it allowed us to get the ball forward and apply pressure in dangerous areas. George was working very well pointing to where he wanted players to run and making sure he never played a pass that would put the team in danger. Patrick and Lucas were breaking up play but were finding it hard to find any space to work, as were the majority of the team.

The Scorpions kept working hard and good play from Mason on the right wing earned his team a throw in high up the pitch. Spotting Jake in space in the box Mason took a quick throw which was controlled well by Jake, and a neat touch and composed finish saw the Scorpions take a deserved 2-1 lead.

A late shot from Archie was saved well by the keeper and a looping shot from Jake scraped the top of the bar, but the remainder of the game saw the Scorpions keeping their shape and discipline to take the win. Full time and 2-1 to the blues!

An excellent performance by the Scorpions today. Torquespeed are a very physical team and look to load players in attack. We had to all be on our game today and the positional play and covering at the back was first rate. Everyone worked their socks off and although it wasn't a game of many chances we dominated play and played the better football. Two lovely finishes from Jake finished off what was an excellent all round team performance – Well done everyone, cracking win today.

Scorpion of the match – George.

George was asked to play in defence and midfield today. He showed leadership in telling his teammates where to run and who to mark. He didn't put a foot wrong and did an an excellent job for the team. His passing was excellent but he also did the dirty work getting his foot in and making some great tackles. Well done George.
