First defeat in 5 for Scorpions

Scorpions 2 - 5 Danbury & Bicknacre
Archie
Patrick

A cold morning at Tabor today as we played our first ever game against a very strong Danbury and Bicknacre side.

The Scorpions found out early on that Danbury & Bicknacre were going to be good opposition when an early chance for them was brilliantly cleared off the line from George. More pressure from our opponents saw them win a corner with the Scorpions struggling to gain a foothold in the game. As the corner came in along the ground some really sloppy defending let the ball squeeze through to their striker for a tap in. 0-1

It took that goal to wake the Scorpions up and create their first real opportunity. A lovely through ball from Patrick found Archie through on goal with him going on to finish in typical fashion to level the game up at 1-1

The game was quite even for the remainder of the half. The highlight being Caspar hitting a shot from the half way line with ferocious power but it whistled just wide of the post. Tor was also called into action making a couple of really good saves and Poyraz and George were working hard to break up play - 1-1 and all square at HT.

The second half started just as poorly for the Scorpions as the first. Two more soft goals from poor defending and we found ourselves trailing 3-1 with it all to do. Where the Scorpions were lacking in quality today they were not lacking in effort - a good response saw a fine shot from Jake saved from the keeper with Mason was just unable to follow up on the rebound.

With the Scorpions looking for goals we lost our shape a little and were punished on the break. The quick and skilful attackers from Danbury added a further 2 goals which put the result beyond any doubt. The game did however end on a high note with Patrick smashing the ball into the top corner to add a late consolation goal for the blues. Full Time 2-5

A difficult game for the Scorpions today against a very good team. We were far from our best and all the good play we have seen in past matches wasn't quite there today - perhaps we should give Danbury some credit for that. We must keep working hard on remembering to close down the ball, being strong in and out of possession and looking for passing opportunities. There were a few moments in today's game where we gave good players far too much time on the ball and we were punished badly for that. Unlucky Scorpions and well played, we go again next week.

Scorpion of the match - Patrick

It was great to see Patrick getting his head up looking for passes today. Two fantastic through balls created excellent chances for a team mate with one being converted. Patrick also worked very hard today and showed great commitment for the team. He capped his performance off with the goal of the match as he fired into the top corner. Well done.
