Scorpions 0 – 0 Torquespeed Falcons
On a chilly morning at Tabor it was Torquespeed Falcons that awaited the Scorpions. Previous encounters have always been hard fought and tight affairs and today proved to be no different.
With Jake pulling out with illness just before kick off, the Scorpions reshuffled and started on the front foot. After a few minutes possession evened out as both teams probed for an opening. The first chance fell to the Scorpions, a terrific long kick from Tor finding Mason in space, his shot was hit well but the keeper made a fine save to tip the ball around the post.
The Scorpions kept pressing and this time a shot from Archie was again saved well from an inspired Falcons goalkeeper. Just moments later the pass of the match - a lobbed through ball from Poyraz found Mason again in space. His movement was causing lots of problems for the Torquespeed defence but his shot went agonisingly wide.
Although the Scorpions were well on top and playing the better football Torquespeed remained dangerous on the counter. A quick break found their striker in space but a great save from Tor with his feet denied our opponents. Further half chances for Archie and Mason couldn't be converted and the first half ended all square.
The second half was more even with lots of battling in the middle of the park. George, Lucas and Caspar were all putting in good shifts, breaking up play and looking to get the ball into our strikers. Archie was all over the pitch finding himself defending more than ever with some important tackles for team being made. Mason continued to find good space but we just never had the run of the ball to create a clear opening. Tor had less to do in the second half but his kicking and overall distribution was excellent today.
A very entertaining 0-0 and the first goalless draw the Scorpions have ever recorded. All the boys put in a great effort and overall were unlucky not to come away the victors against a very good side. Well done
Scorpion of the match - Poyraz
One of his best games in a Scoprions shirt. His defending was top notch and the Falcons forwards didn't beat him once. He made numerous runs out of defence and always found a player with a pass. His lobbed through ball was exquisite and was very unlucky not to set up a goal. Well done.
