Team spirit shines through in tough encounter

Sunday 10 November 2019

Galleywood Falcons 2 – 3 Scorpions
Patrick
Archie
Mason

A trip to Chelmsford on Remembrance Sunday today for the Scorpions, and even though past results have gone in our favour when playing Galleywood we were aware that they have a good team and posed a real physical threat.

The game started quite subdued for the Scorpions and not a great deal was happening for either team. A few minutes in and some early corners from Galleywood were dealt with well from Tor and that seemed to spark the Scorpions into life. After holding onto possession better, a great run from Caspar down the right flank caused panic at the back for Galleywood and with a loose ball falling to Patrick he buried his shot low and hard to make it 1-0.

Galleywood were not deterred and pressed for an equaliser and it took a brilliant tackle from Poyraz in the box to save a a clear goal scoring opportunity for our opposition. The game evened back out and Mason found himself in some good positions high up the pitch. An opportunity came his way but his shot on the half turn flew wide of the post.

The Scorpions kept battling hard and some great work from George in midfield kept the team moving forward, Archie gathered the ball on the edge of the box and as he always does some quick feet got him away from his marker and a hard low shot found the net to make it 2-0

A very poorly Jake struggled to make much impact today but made one lovely run down the right wing taking on two defenders, but unfortunately couldn't get his cross in to make another opportunity for his team. Half time and 2-0.

The second half was much of the same. Long kicks from the Galleywood keeper were causing a few problems but Poyraz and Caspar always looked commanding at the back. Galleywood did finally find a break through however with a nicely taken goal to half our lead.

The Scorpions kept pushing and it was Mason that put the game to bed with his persistence and tenacity throughout the game finally paying off. Finding himself in the area with the ball at his feet he made no mistake squeezing the ball into the bottom corner. 3-1. A late consolation from Galleywood made it 3-2 at full time in a tightly contested match.

The Scorpions showed a great team spirit today and their will to win really shone through. We was not at our fluid best but the second half saw Archie and Patrick looking for more passes which was very good to see. Another win on the road and we now look forward to getting back to Tabor for a few home ties over the coming weeks. Well done everyone.

Also a special note to say well done to all the boys for observing an impeccable 1 minutes silence. You did yourselves and all of us proud.

Scorpion of the match - Patrick

Patrick was constantly taking the ball from midfield to attack and Galleywood found it hard to get the ball from him. Got a very important goal in the first half which settled the team. In the second half he battled hard and showed that he was listening in training when trying to find more passes.
