One goal enough to give Scorpions the win

Scorpions 1 - 0 SWF United Reds
Caspar

Another match on home soil for the Scorpions today as we took on SWF United Reds and we knew we'd be in for a tough match after losing 3-0 last time out.

The match started well for the Scorpions with an early chance falling to Mason. Finding space well he got his shot off but it went just wide of the post. As possession started to even out SWF started to get a foothold in the match with wo shots in quick succession both hitting the post.

With both teams looking to attack at every opportunity the match had an open feel and it wasn't long before the Scorpions got another chance - this time great work from Poyraz resulted in a chance for Jake, but his shot went just wide.

It was then SWF's turn attack and three great saves from Tor kept the Scorpions on level terms. A late chance fell to Patrick but his well hit shot went agonisingly over the bar. HT 0-0

The Second half started with SWF on the front foot with Tor again being called into action making two more fine saves. SWF then hit the post for a third time in the match and must have been wondering if perhaps it wasn't going to be their day.

It was then the Scorpions turn to have some good opportunities. Firstly Patrick found himself in a good position to score but from a very tight angle just couldn't hit the target. Archie then created a chance for himself after dispossessing a SWF defender - through on goal he struck the ball well and this time it was the SWF keeper who made a fine save. A big chance then fell to Jake who found himself through on goal, he composed himself well but was unlucky to see his effort hit the post.

Finally, after multiple chances for both teams the deadlock was finally broken. Jake finding space down the left flank got his head up and picked out a lovely cross to find Caspar. Bringing the ball under control Caspar's shot was fired past the helpless keeper to give the Scorpions the lead. 1-0

SWF didn't give up and with just a few minutes left on the clock further chances were created, but Tor was on hand again and was determined to keep a clean sheet. Late chances also fell to Mason and Jake and both were unlucky not to convert. The final whistle was met with cheers in what was a fiercely contested encounter. Full Time and 1-0 to the Scorpions!

A great performance today. All the team worked incredibly hard against good opposition. SWF have some talented players but we all stuck to our jobs and defended resolutely with Poyraz, George and Lucas all putting in great tackles. Tor was absolutely inspired between the posts, and although a few chances were missed from the attacking players they all put in great performances and its pleasing that we are creating so many chances. Well done Scorpions, brilliant!!
