Scorpions roar to victory against Lions

Sunday 20 October 2019

Dunmow United Lions 2 - 7 Scorpions
Mason
Caspar (2)
George
Archie
Jake (2)

On a very boggy trip to Dunmow the Scorpions took on the Dunmow Lions.

The Scorpions started really brightly forcing some early corners. Mason walked over and crashed the first off the post. Seconds later another Mason corner crashed off the bar!! The Scorpions knew they were in a tough match though as the Lions were fighting hard to get a foothold in the game.

The best team move of the game was possibly the opening goal. Tor in goal threw the ball out to defence where Poyraz played the ball down the line to find Jake. Jake in space made a trademark run down the left wing crossing into Mason who finished a beautiful team move. 1-0

The second goal came after some great work from Caspar resulted in a handball in the penalty area. Caspar took the resulting penalty and made no mistake smashing it into the net to make it 2-0. More attacking work from the Scorpions resulted in another corner. This time George whipped it into the near post and just like yesterday it cannoned in off a defender for our third of the match. 3-0

The lions were not completely out of the match and still had some good moments themselves. Tor in goal was being kept busy and produced some amazing saves and showed great bravery diving at attackers feet to gather the ball.

The Scorpions soaked up that pressure and continued to press. A brave header from Lucas found Archie in the box and that usually only means one thing!! 4-0 to the Scorpions at half time and a fantastic half of football.

The Scorpions were told at half time to keep their heads and keep concentrating, and that is exactly what they did with Jake getting on the end of another attacking move to make it 5-0. The sixth followed shortly after, a great assist from Mason found a stretching Jake on the back post and he did amazingly well to turn the ball into the net - 6-0!!

An unlucky own goal conceded by the Scorpions made it 6-1 before Caspar fired in a powerful freekick from distance to make it 7-1. Another own goal gave the Lions a consolation for the match to end 7-2.

Brilliant today from all the Scorpions. Tor in goal was immense saving multiple shots to keep his team ahead in the match. Poyraz was kept busy in defence but didn't put a foot wrong. It was also pleasing to see Poyraz running into space and making good passes into midfield. Lucas, George and Mason did not stop running and broke up play on multiple occasions and Jake and Archie continued to make great attacking runs all match. A brilliant team performance today against very good opposition - Well done everyone you were all amazing today.

Scorpion of the match - Caspar

Caspar was in the thick of everything today. He battled strongly with what seemed like every Lions' player. Even when some of the opposition players got a little too frustrated Caspar kept his cool and kept playing great football. A penalty and a free kick were both converted today (both made by Caspar) to cap off a great performance. Well done.
