A resolute performance by the Scorpions

Wilvale Rangers Knights v Scorpions
Mason
Caspar

The first half started with the Scorpions on the back foot, conceding a few corners but defending well. With the wind and rain in their faces the Scorpions battled away in usual fashion, crunching in tackles and not allowing their opponents any time to settle into a rhythm.

After soaking up the early pressure the Scorpions started to go on the attack with Tor and Jake both firing shots wide of the target. Some neat play from Tor on the right wing almost allowed him another shot on goal, but some last gasp defending from the Knights just denied him.

The breakthrough finally came on 16 minutes. A huge scramble in the Knight's box was somehow defended and cleared, but the ball came straight back into the danger area where Mason was on hand to finish expertly into the corner. A superb finish to open the scoring. 1-0

The remainder of the half was closely contested. Lucas made some good bursting run through midfield, Charlie continued to break up play, and some excellent marking from Aurora were all highlights from the first half. Poyraz made some trademark tackles and Caspar was called upon a couple of times in goal, but never looked like conceding.

The Scorpions continued to press in the second half with two good opportunities for Jake, but his shots were saved by the Knight's keeper. Somewhat against the run of play, the Knights then capitalised on some miscommunication at the back and another neat finish saw the scoreline levelled at 1-1.

There were chances for both teams to take the lead, with Poyraz firing an opportunity into the side netting and the Knights breaking through only to be denied by a brilliant last ditch tackle from Jake.

With 35 minutes on the clock the Scorpions had one last sting in their tail, with Caspar firing in a powerful shot that beat the keeper. 2-1. With the game almost won the Knights had their last hurrah, but two brilliant saves from Lucas right at the death earned the win from the Scorpions.

A nail biter today but a well deserved victory. Well done Scorpions.

Player of the match – Tor. Continues to improve every week. Showed good understanding of the game with his positional play and made some great runs from defence to attack. Battled well at the back and made some great tackles. Well done.
