A very evenly fought contest

Poyraz

A great performance today by the Scorpions losing to two wonderful finishes against a team we lost to 8-1 just 3 months ago.

Both teams started brightly but from early on all the memories of a good SWF Panthers team came flooding back, however the Scorpions showed just how far they have improved keeping their shape and limiting our opponents to very few chances.

After a Panthers disallowed goal (and rightly so!!) the Scorpions sparked into life. A good tackle from Poyraz saw him play the ball forward. As the space opened up he continued to chase his own ball, beating two defenders he slotted home the finish to give the Scorpions the lead. 1-0.

The game continued to be evenly contested and some excellent defensive play from Tor and Poyraz was frustrating our opponents. Caspar and Jake were trying hard up front but space was limited today and it was hard to create any clear cut opportunities.

Charlie, George and Lucas were keeping possession well for the team and stand in keeper Mason was doing a fantastic job between the sticks. As the half was coming to an end a superb strike by the Panthers striker from a tight angle rocketed into the top corner to end the half all square.

The second half continued like the first with limited chances, but the Scorpions were showing a lot of heart and determination. A few half chances for Casper and Poyraz and some nice runs forward from Tor kept the Panthers at bay. But as the half wore on the Scorpions began to tire from the huge effort they had put in, and another lovely finish from the Panthers, lobbing Lucas with another assured finish, made the score line 2-1.

Lucas was then called into action to make a few saves, one notably a great save high to his right clawing the ball away for a corner.
The Scorpions kept working but just couldn’t find a way through a very solid Panthers side, and the game ended 2-1.

A top effort from all the boys today and one they can all be very proud of - the improvement they have shown over the last few months has been fantastic. Keep up the good work!

Player of the match – Tor. Made some great tackles today and kept running with the ball out defence taking pressure off the team. Got forward to help the attack and showed great energy levels getting up and down the pitch. Well done.
