A fantastic start to the New Year as The Scorpions run riot against a bewildered Braintree Irons.

The Scorpions started the game on the front foot, holding onto possession well and causing the Irons to panic at the back. A neat piece of play from George saw the first opportunity fall to him in the opening minutes, but a good save from the Irons' keeper kept it level.

The Scorpions continued to press and a succession of corners followed, but the opening goal continued to elude the home side. The Irons then went on a rare attack, but Poyraz was there to snuff out the danger with a fine tackle.

Finally the Scorpions got their breakthrough when Jake was on hand in the penalty area to slot home a tidy finish into the net to make it 1-0. The Scorpions continued to press, and Jake made a fantastic run through on goal only to be tripped by the trailing defender. The referee gave mercy to the away side, and through a smile/grimace waved play on!!

The Scorpions battled away looking for that all important second goal. Tor made some great runs down the line, Charlie, Lucas and Mason were all in the thick of things in the centre of the park, but a quick attack from a throw-in saw the opposition striker through 1 on 1 with our keeper and he made no mistake. 1-1 at half time and a very unfortunate scoreline for the Scorpions.

The Scorpions came out hard in the second half, and it wasn't long before the lead was regained, a great run through on goal from Poyraz who made no mistake with his finish. 2-1.
Just minutes later, Caspar also made a fantastic run and scored a fine effort. 3-1. Poyraz added a 4th with another tenacious run and neat finish and the game was all but won.

The Scorpions were not finished there though and a Braintree side we drew 2-2 with in September were being very much outclassed and outfought.

A penalty from Caspar after he was brought down was dragged just wide, and another shot from Caspar was brilliantly saved from the Braintree keeper. Still the Scorpions pressed on and some brilliant runs from Jake were rewarded with 2 quick goals that gave him his first ever hat-trick. Another good piece of play between Lucas, Mason and Caspar saw Jake get a 4th right at the end of the match. Final score 7-1

A fantastic performance from the whole team today, winning comfortably against a team we drew with only in September - great progress. Well done boys, keep it up.

Man of the Match – Poyraz. Set the tone in pressing high up the pitch where a lot of our success came from today. Made some great runs and was as tenacious as ever in his tackles. A great performance capped with 2 well taken goals. Well done.
