A much better performance this week from the Scorpions. Better passing and moving, good defending and marking of players and good running into space were all improvements from previous weeks. The Scorpions also started this match much quicker than in previous games with Patrick getting some early chances, only to be denied by some last ditch defending. Lucas showed some excellent touches and dribbling skills to carry the ball out of midfield and Jake made some good runs with the ball into space in the opposition half. Poyraz continued his good form and made some excellent tackles to break up the play, and Caspar (making his debut) was very assured between the posts - making some good saves and showing good distribution to get the team back on the attack quickly (thank goodness we now have a keeper!!).
The first half ended all square, but the Scorpions were in control for most of the half.
The opening goal came early in the second half with Jake running through the heart of the Braintree Town Iron's defence to finish with a low powerful shot that easily beat the goalkeeper. The Scorpions continued to grow in confidence and almost doubled their lead after another effort from Jake cannoned back off the post. However, the second goal wasn't far away, and was scored after a strong run and shot from Poyraz found the back of the net.
Tor came into the match more in the second half, making some fantastic slides to keep the ball in play and his team in possession of the ball. Mason and Charlie also showed some nice touches in the centre of the pitch and both were unlucky with chances late on.
Towards the end of the game Braintree Town Irons broke twice and scored two late goals to level the match. But a good performance from the Scorpions. Well done!!
Man of the match - Poyraz. Fantastic performance. Made some excellent tackles but also broke forward often with strong runs and capped his performance off with a goal.
