The Dragons returned to action today after what seemed like an eternity since the trip to Baddow. This week's opponents were new to the league Maldon Saints so we anticipated a tough encounter. The Dragons travelled to Maldon with only 9 available players, second game in and all had to complete the full 60 minutes with only break being at half time!
The perfect start for the Dragons, playing today's game in all yellow, Roo came out and claimed an early corner from the hosts. He launched the ball forward with a big kick for Jenson to chase on to and poke the ball past the advancing goalkeeper first time into the net for a 1-0 lead in the first minute!
The hosts replied almost instantly with a shot high into the top corner, Roo no chance. 1-1 game on.
It was a frantic, fast paced, end to end game of football! A brilliant watch for all those in attendance!
Battling away it was our goalscorers turn to provide an assist for Isaac inside the box to score his first goal for the Dragons and give us a 2-1 lead! The game wasn't slowing down but it was the Dragons with the advantage all over the pitch. The link up play on the left saw Ryan and Jenson work the ball inside, Isaac touched the ball through for Angus to meet and slam in for 3-1! Dragons roaring everywhere!
Bang on half time Maldon broke away to make it 2-3 at the break! What a game this was, everyone catching the breath ready for the second half!
Second half and the home side were clearly buoyed by pinching a goal back on half time. Their early pressure was rewarded with a goal and 3-3 all square again! A classic Dragon counter attack Pearcey driving the ball forward this time and Jenson through on goal, the goalkeeper could only parry the ball into Isaac's path to bang in his second goal of the game and restore the Dragons lead!
This half was just as entertaining as the first, end to end, neither side showing any signs of tiring.
Maldon pressed but it was captain Teddy today this time who crunched into a tackled and won possession before sending a well weighted pass through Maldon defence for Jenson to gather and slide past the goalkeeper in off the post to give us another 2 goal lead!
5 minutes left and a dubious hand ball decision gave Maldon a penalty. The striker took an almost perfect penalty leaving Roo no chance in the corner for 4-5.
With the game in its final stages it was expected that the hosts would be in the ascendancy but it was the Dragons keeping possession and pushing up the pitch. A worldie to cap things off and his first ever hat-trick for Jenson as he smashed a volley from a loose ball into the top right corner from distance!
A superb game today, I could have awarded 9 Dragon of the Week awards!
