Dragons come out on top on torrential rain

Logan (2)
Sam W
Harrison
Jenson (2)
It was a game of three sides... Dragons vs SWF vs The Weather!!!
The Dragons kicked off with the advantage of a strong wind behind them and quickly established themselves as a force to be reckoned with. With frequent attacks poised at the SWF goal, their keeper was able to fend off most shots that didn’t already succumb to the wind. On the Dragons’ end, West Ham Sam stood in for Roo as goalie and maintained a clean sheet despite being put to the test on a number of occasions. Harrison was substituted for Walshy, who was quickly switched from defence to right wing. Logan scored the first two goals in the 18th and 23rd minute which helped release the tension. A minute later and a shot at the goal by Jenson which was deflected by the goalie was picked up and delivered by Walshy at close quarters. A first-time match goal for Walshy and 3-0 at Half Time!
Second half and the Dragons were now having to work against the wind. Sam W replaced West Ham Sam in goal. One minute in and the United Whites scored their first goal raising concerns that the tables might have turned for the second half. With the support of Zach and Jenson in mid field, Harrison rectified the loss with an excellent scuffle through the opponent’s defence and into the back of the net bringing the score to 4-1.
With the rain having staved off for most of the match, it came back with vengeance for the quarter. Despite the odds, the Dragons continued to push through the more evenly paced second half. Angus worked hard across the whole pitch and the two Joshes kept turning back the ball whenever it came their way. The game was by no means over however as Jenson was able to harden the Dragons win with not one but two goals in the closing stages of the match! 6-1 to Dragons!
A great game for the Dragons. Teamwork seems to have improved since the last game two weeks ago. Neither side were deterred today by the wet and windy weather though and should be praised for their determination in spite of the elements. They were all heroes!
Dragon of the week was Samuel Walsh for gallant play in goal and his first match goal.
Thanks to Wendy for coming along to support and take photos despite neither Roo, nor the weather, playing ball!!!
