Dominant win for Dragons

Harrison (4), Logan (2), Jenson, Gus
Today, the Dragons played away at Braintree Irons on a cooler-but-pleasant overcast morning. West Ham Sam, today’s captain (following his debut match last week), won the toss allowing Harrison to kick-off.
The first ten minutes involved a lot of back-and-forth with both teams keen to get the scoreboard off the mark. Ryan was still struggling with his ankle from an injury two weeks ago but showed resilience when he needed to play his part in the game. Zach displayed some excellent all-round play, supporting Harrison and Ryan up front with the two Joshes and WH Sam bringing up the rear. The score was still 0-0 thirteen minutes into the game when substitutions brought Walshy, Gus, Jenson, and Logan on.
The first goal came in at 16 minutes. Jenson slugged a long drive up from midfield to Harrison who closed in following a mad scramble on the goal line. This break was what the Dragons needed to change their fortunes. Great action from Gus gave Harrison the chance to score his second goal and just a minute later Jenson scored another. 3-0!
Both Gus and Logan had near misses before half time - Gus carried the ball single-handedly most of the length of the pitch, only to hit the left goalpost and Logan’s took a rebound from a respectable goalie save only to see it pop over the crossbar.
The Dragons continued their offensive in the second half with four more goals. Logan received a delightful pass from Gus with a great finisher at the back of the next. Zach was on hand on the left wing in case Logan needed support. Just a few minutes later and both Gus and Logan have added to the mark bringing the score to 6-0.
Josh Pierce and Zach formed a great partnership supporting the forwards. Following substitutions, Walshy exhibited some excellent defensive work, taking ownership of the ball and delivering some great passes. Roo’s first real challenge in goal came in the last 10 minutes with a number of respectable corners and incoming shots from the Irons, all of which he held off. Meanwhile, Harrison completed his third and forth goal of the match (and third consecutive Hat Trick) bringing the score to 8-0.
After a slow start, the Dragons came together and played as a team throughout the rest of the match. Harrison was awarded Dragon of the Week. Great game. Let’s keep it up!
