A long-awaited return to the Dragons Den in Wethersfield today for the Dragons as they hosted a Wasps side that beat them 7-1 a few weeks ago.
The Dragons started like a train! Bombing forward keeping the Wasps pinned back. Early chance going wide from Jenson after a neat bit of play from our number 7 and Pearcey together down the right. Harrison hit the side netting with a siter at goal. A determined Josh SB took the sting out of the Wasps first attack forward, calmly dealing with the danger as our Mr Reliable at the back. Resembling the reverse fixture with the Dragons on the front foot it was a swift counter attack that broke the deadlock, Wasps sneaking the ball into the bottom corner for 0-1.
A second goal followed after dogged defending from Angus and Jenson near the corner flag, the ball looked like it had gone out for a corner but the referee waved the game on and the cross found the Wasps forward who made no mistake for 0-2. Feeling hard done by and maybe a little frustrated the Dragons lost focus and conceded a quick third for the visitors.
Here we go, 3 goals behind the Dragons cleared their heads and roared back into life! Ryan battling hard with his fresh legs and Logan picking out Harrison in the box to fire home from 6 yards out for 3-1. This is becoming a habit now it seems! This time it was Zack winning the ball back with the ball breaking to Logan who gained half a yard on his left foot and drove in the Dragons deserved second goal! 2-3!
Half time! Frantic first half over and a position the Dragons have known all to well the last few games! 3 goals behind with a mountain to climb, they were nearly there grabbing 2 before half time!
The Dragons started on the front foot again, Jenson drawing a foul on the corner of the box. Logan stepped up with a drive just wide. Momentum was there though. Some brilliant passing between Angus and Pearcey saw the through ball taken in his stride again by our number 10, Logan, his first touch taking him past the last defender and rifling high into the net for 3-3! Comeback complete, now an even game let's get the winner again!
It was a tight nervy last 15 mins with neither side creating anything clear cut. Ryan flashed an effort just past the post for the Dragons. Down the other end Sam stood tall with both feet and head to clear the ball! Roo was called into a fine save after the Wasps first effort hit the bar, Roo reacted well to stop the rebound!
Full time and at 0-3, a draw feels like a victory! I just wish we'd stop going 3 behind before we start scoring boys! ?
