A sunny morning welcomed us at Keith Bigden Memorial Ground for our away match against Hatfield Peveral Giants.
Both teams started off on the right foot with early chances coming from free kicks both ends of the pitch. It was the Giants keeper that started off with most to do by denying Logan's attempt at goal. A further save had to be made as a great pass from Jensen over to Logan doesn't make it through the keeper. Play continues as both teams try to find the opener.
A pass in from Ryan falls to Logan who takes his chance but it rattles the post. Again, Ryan and Logan working well together but still neither can find the back of the net. Another effort from Logan flashed across the face of goal.
The Dragon's had chance after chance but couldn't quite get it into the back of the net, until now....... A brilliant cross in from Pearcy to Jensen was passed onto Ryan who calmly slotted it into the far corner to give us a deserved lead. 0-1
The halftime whistle blew with the score 0-1. A score line that should have seen the Dragon's have more of a lead.
With the second half underway it was the Giants that wanted to take their chances with Roo making a big save to keep us in the lead. However, it wasn't long before the Giants level the score due to some sloppy play by the Dragon's. 1-1
The score wasn't level for long. A decent throw in from Zach made it down the line to Logan who managed to out muscle the Giants defender. Logan squared it across the goal where Ryan was waiting and was able to slot it in for us to take the lead once more. 1-2
The Giants came out fighting and had a brilliant chance scuppered by Roo who even with the sun in his eyes managed to make a cracking save to keep us in front.
As play continued Gus makes a superb run down the right wing and finishes it in the back of net for the Dragon's to be able to extend their lead. 1-3
The Dragon's haven't stopped there! A great corner in from Jensen bounces round in the area and Ryan manages to get his foot to it to again extend our lead. A fantastic hattrick for Ryan! 1-4
The Dragon's are now on fire and chances are coming left, right and centre. This time it is Gus with the pass to Logan who tried to shoot from a bit further out but is blocked by the Giants keeper. Luckily it spills out of the keepers hands and rolls into the net. 1-5
The Giants had a throw in but the ball was won by the Dragon's who again took their chance. Jensen again played a nice ball into Logan who hit it home to finish off the game! 1-6
As play resumed the Giants were still working hard to try and gain themselves another goal but some brilliant defending by Sam and Josh SB kept the score at 1-6 when the final whistle blew!
Some brilliant football played today by all the boys. The first half felt frustrating with the amount of chances we had but the second half we came to life and were very much rewarded.
Dragon of the week:
Jensen Hayden - A truly fantastic game for Jensen today. Making key passes that enabled the Dragon's to score most of their goals and some great defensive work.
