It was a beautiful sunny morning at the Dragons Den where the Dragons welcomed Wilvale Warriors for our opening game of the season.
A few chances early on saw Gus have a couple of shots at goal and Ryan working tirelessly back and fourth. Our defence looked calm and collected. Changes made then saw some great chances come in to play. A free kick taken by Jensen fell to Zach at the far post who rifled a shot at goal that was kept out by the keeper. Our second chance was taken on the volley by Harrison but was hit narrowly over the bar.
Roo back from injury had only one save to make in the first half. An important stop to keep the score 0-0. The Dragons dominated the half.
The second half was underway with substitutions made. An early corner from Josh SB found its way to Logan's feet but his shot was blocked. Soon after a clearance from Roo found its way to Logan who linked up well with Gus for a chance on goal but it went just wide of the post.
Against the run of play a shot from the visitors saw Roo make a good stop with the rebound falling to a Willvale player who slotted in for the opening goal of the game. As play continued a great tackle from Ryan made the ball spill out into Logan's path who smashed in a great shot from distance to level the score. 1-1.
The dragons kept on pressing for a second goal but it was Wilvale that again took the lead. The away side were first to react to another great save by Roo, bundling the ball just over the line despite the efforts of Roo and Gus to keep it out.
Play continued back and fourth and more changes were made.
An effort from Harrison who was now back on the pitch brushed past the post. As play carried on we saw a throw in from Gus that fell to Harrison whose shot hit the back of the net giving the Dragons the equaliser. Both teams pressed on trying to find the winning goal. The Dragons, with a goal kick from Roo to Gus found its way to Logan who played a great pass over the top of the defenders to Harrison who calmly took his chance to give the Dragons a deserved lead.
The Dragons worked hard to see out the rest of the game. They were once again on the front foot as the final whistle was blown. A great start to the new season for the Dragons.
