SWF Utd Reds v Dragons

After what seemed an eternity the Dragons were back into match action. Today's task was an afternoon trip to South Woodham Ferrers against a side that previously inflicted the worst ever defeat the Dragons have suffered.

The Dragons started well, playing the ball around very well on the artificial surface. Ironically it was some brilliant football played from the back from which we fell behind, it saw Angus, SB and Zack neatly interchange trying to set Logan free through on goal to be hit on a quick counter for 1-0. In a blink of an eye the technically skilled hosts had added another 2 goals. The encouraging signs were there for the Dragons though passing the ball around well despite the sucker punch of 3 early goals, Logan coming close with 2 efforts within minutes of eachother. Changes made and Jenson, Pearcy and Ryan carried on, winning individual battles across the pitch and another counter left us 4 behind, Roo making a fine save but unable to do anything about the follow up. The Dragons drove on, Ryan going close 1 on 1 with the keeper before Pearcy not quite connecting with a chance of his own before the break. We did get a lifeline on half time as Jenson slid the ball through for Ryan Pitbull Bensley to control and this time find the net with a low strike! 4-1 to the hosts at the break but the Dragons were purring with chances being created.

Second half started all Dragons, Logan again having a shot blocked then hitting the side netting. Roo saw a long goal kick bounce over the Reds goalkeeper but drop just over the bar. Josh SB epitomizing what we wanted, winning the ball doggedly before shooting with his weaker left foot from outside the area, it looped into the far corner for 4-2! Handball from the Reds goalkeeper outside the area saw Jenson step forward but his freekick just going over the bar, another big chance! The Reds scored their fifth but the Dragons kept going, Jenson winning the ball wide, touch out of his feet and playing the ball through for Ryan to gather and slot past the keeper for a great goal. 5-3, at this point it looked like we could get right back into it. Sadly it wasn't the be and 2 quick fire goals from the hosts not only killed off our challenge but also added the gloss to the scoreline.

Lots and lots of chances made today, some very good football played as well, another day if the Dragons were more clinical we win this game 10-7 but that's football! Lots of positives to take from today!

Super performace from our number 3 today, a tight call between him and Ryan but Pearcy was everywhere today and another day could have been on the scoresheet, well done Josh!
