Good play by Dragons not rewarded with goals

Jenson

Home at the Dragons Den again this week, on what was a beautiful, sunny and still morning in Wethersfield. Today's opponents we know well from previous encounters last year and early this season, the first meeting this season saw us lose heavily 10-1.

The Dragons started well with a couple of early attacks but it was the visitors that took the lead with a swift move forward. Knuckled down to the task at hand the Dragons were pressing all over the pitch, "Pitbull" Ryan one side and Roo the other doggedly winning possession, but both unable to get any clear cut opportunities for their efforts. Our best chance of the half came from a Bears goalkick falling for Jenson to strike from distance, unfortunately inching wide of the goal. Logan, SB and Zack entered the fray with the 3 of them looking to carry on where the 3 they replaced left off. Working tirelessly with Angus bursting through from defence we couldn't create a chance to test the goalkeeper. Then the Bears added a well worked goal to give them a 2 goal cushion heading into the break.

Second half we knew we were still in the game and fresh legs with Pearcey, Jenson and Ryan starting the second half. Roo, voluntarily putting on the gloves for the half, made several fine stops facing an awkward low sun but unfortunately couldn't prevent a third goal for the Bears. A Bears goalkick was won wide by Jenson before he was fouled on the corner of the penalty area. A free-kick in a good position, captain for the day, Jenson stepped up and curled it in the far left hand corner for 3-1. Dragons immediately lifted and penned the visitors back with Ryan dribbling and drawing the defender into using a hand to stop the ball, another free-kick in almost the same postion as before. Jenson striking well towards the opposite corner to before but hitting the woodwork this time! SB driving forward on the right after coming on combined well with Logan but again no chance forthcoming to our frustration on the side. Roo made a superb one on one save leading to a goal mouth scramble the ball eventually being cleared to safety Zack. With the clock ticking the Bears added a 4th and then the 5th with the final kick of the game.

In conclusion, todays score was 3-1 with 2 minutes to go and I think it shows how much we've improved as a team when you think we lost 10-1 only just a couple of months ago, head's up boys you're doing great!
