Heybridge Swifts Phoenix v Dragons

An away trip to a previously unbeaten Heybridge Swifts Phoenix was the task awaiting the Dragons this week. In what was a very sticky pitch, typical of this time of year, the Dragons proved up to the challenge!

It was the hosts that made the breakthrough, the attacker slotting past Pearcy in our goal. The Dragons didnt seem fazed, restarting and equalising immediately after dogged work from the front 3, SB shot deflecting to "Pitbull" Ryan's feet to tap in and level the game up. Battling everywhere, our second game from Josh "Sonic" SB, picking up a lose ball and letting fly from halfway, his shot finding the bottom left corner! Any threat coming from Heybridge was being snuffed out time and time again from Angus at the back. Turning the pressure up Jenson "The Machine" went forward into the box shooting past the goalkeeper in off the post to give us a 3-1 advantage. As the half went on perhaps some tired legs crept in from the sheer effort the Dragons were putting in as Heybridge pulled one back. Changes were made and fresh legs on, but a quick fire third followed for Heybridge to level up. Roo restarted the game we a great through ball for Logan, his first touch took him past the last defender and with only his second touch after coming on restored our lead, rifling into the bottom right corner!

Half time and leading, not a position we've been in much this season! Fresh legs again brought on and second half it was all the Dragons, a belief had instilled into the boys from the first half and wave after wave of attack thwarted only by the Heybridge Goalkeeper. Jenson, SB and Zack all going close and Pearcy hitting the woodwork to top it off. Roo, in goal for the second half, made a crucial save at the feet of the striker and the follow up shot from the Heybridge attack was cleared on the line with a superb header by Angus before Pearcy got the ball away. The fight and determination was there for all to see. Then we went back on the attack and Logan jinked past the last defender and scored our fifth to ease some nerves on the sideline! Angus at the back drove forward to end any hope of a Heybridge comeback with a long run forward slamming home number 6 and seal a much needed victory for the boys!

Well what a game! Nothing short of what they deserved today, each and every Dragon worked their socks off for that result! Well done boys!
